ABSTRACT

To evaluate female sexual functions after hysterectomy and compare vaginal versus abdominal hysterectomy concerning postoperative sexual functions.

Totally 85 postmenopausal women who had hysterectomy with bilateral oopherectomy included in our study. 70 of them had abdominal(TAH group) and 15 had vaginal hysterectomy (VTH group). 6 months after the operations FSF Indexes forms were given to all patients. Total FSF Index scores and subtitle scores were compared by Mann-Whitney U test at SPSS 10.0 version.

FSF Index was higher in VTH group, but difference was not statistically significant (p>0,05).When we compared subtitles within FSF Index seperately;mean scores for desire and arousal were similar in both groups, postoperatively (p>0,05).The mean scores of lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction and pain was significantly higher in VTH group.

Correction of vaginal anatomy after VTH operation may contribute to the higher FSF Index in our study. Vaginal and perineal plasty, routinely added to VTH may provide more sensation and so more lubrication which leads to less pain.
