ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE:

Our aim was yo discus patients diagnosed with peritoneal tuberculosis, an antitiy easily confused with and after similar to extensive ovarian tumors, in the light of modern day literature.

Design:

We designed to discuss peritoneal tuberculosis alongside a case report

Setting:

Gazi University Faculty of Medicine Obstetrics and Gynecology Department, Beşevler, Ankara

Patient:

A female patient of 30 years applied to our clinic with abdominal distension and discomfort. Upon which a pelvic ultrasound was performed and pelvic ascite was discovered. Further tests didn’t reveal any pathological results. Diagnostic laparotomy showed miliary implants on all peritoneal surfaces. Cytological and frozen pathology testing confirmed the absence of a malignancy, leeding us to consider the possibility of peritoneal tuberculosis.

Intervention:

Our patients complained of intraabdominal ascite, distension and pain we decided to perform diagnostic laparotomy.

Main outcome measures:

Parameters of laparotomy ruled out malignancy and postoperatively the patients was diagnosed with peritoneal tuberculosis.
