Gynecology and obstetric clinic satisfaction of patients and effective factors

OBJECTIVE: The quality assessments used for monitoring the results of a health care are based on the medical outputs, cost analyses and patient satisfaction. The aim of the present study was to assess the quality of the health care given to inpatient cases for a certain period of time based on patient satisfaction. MATERIALS-METHODS: This investigation was carried out in Obstetrics and Gynecology inpatient clinic at Süleyman Demirel University, School of Medicine between 01.02.2006 and 28.02.2006. 112 inpatient cases were taken into the study. Patient satisfaction with the health care, patient complaints and proposals were taken into consideration. Data were analysed by SPSS 9.0 statistical software. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 37.19 ± 10.87. 84.9% of the cases was married and 57.4% of women was from the towns in the vicinity of Isparta. The educational levels were as 46.4% primary school, and 53.6% highschool and university. When the satisfaction with health care given in the Obstetrics and Gynecology Clinic was evaluated, 90.2% were satisfied and highly satisfied. 94.6% of the patients rated physicians’ care as good and the information given was sufficient for 82.10%. There were statistical differences between the educational levels and also physicians’ care regarding patient satisfaction, χ2=98.324, p=0.0001; and χ2=58.209, p=0.0001, respectively). When the expectations and proposals were asked relating health services, 42% was about the improvement of the quality of health care (decreasing the number of beds, adding beds for attendants, tv inside the rooms, and better meals) CONCLUSION: Patients were seemed to be satisfied with the physicians’ care but had expectations for the improvement of the quality of health care provided.
