Our clinic experience of hysterectomies for 6 years

Aim:

Our aim was to analyze the hysterectomies performed at our clinic during the past 6 years.

Planing:

Abdominal, vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomies were scanned our clinical archieve.

Setting:

Gazi University Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Beşevler, Ankara

Materials Method:

This review included patients who had applied to Gazi University, Faculty of Medicine Deapartment of Obstetrics and Gynecology and had undergone an total abdominal hysterectomy, vaginal hysterectomy or laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure for various reasons. A total of 1490 patients were included.

Results:

Generally considering the sample populations, evaluation showed 1391 patients undergoing abdominal or vaginal hysterectomies and 93 undergoing laparoscopic hysterectomies. Simultaneous BSO (bilateral salpingo oophorectomy) was preferably performed alongside total abdominal hysterectomy. Patients undergoing the BSO procedure had a mean age of 52.

Discussion:

Hysterectomy; performed upon indications such as disfunctional uterine bleeding, myoma uteri, uterovaginal prolapsus, endometriosis, adenomyosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, chronic pelvic pain, gynecologic cancers and obstetrics complications, is known to be the most frequently performed (major) operation. Abdominal, vaginal and laparoscopic hysterectomy all have their individual advantage and disadvantages however the most favored mode of surgery at our clinic is abdominal hysterectomy.
